7) Sam Houston National Forest
The forest contains 163,037 acres and offers extensive hiking trails, campsites, recreation areas and breathtaking scenery. Canoes and paddle boats can be rented at Double Lake, and countless picnic areas provide the perfect setting to stop for a snack.
8) Heritage Museum
The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County is housed in the Grogan-Cochran home. These two families owned and operated 25 sawmills since 1917. The Heritage Museum tells the story of early settlers to Montgomery County, offering a glimpse into pioneer life.
9) Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary
Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary is a non-profit facility that provides rescued wolves and wolfdogs with a safe, loving home. Since 2002 they’ve welcomed thousands of visitors to their facility, located in Montgomery. Tours are available by appointment only.
10) The Showboat Drive-In Movie Theater
Enjoy a double feature every Saturday and Sunday night at the Showboat Drive-in.Enjoy buttery popcorn and snacks at the concession stand, and have a night under the stars with friends and family.
